We spotted our first roller in Ngorongoro on July 25, 2016 during our Dawn on the Serengeti trip to Tanzania. They are beautiful birds and John took many great pictures of them including one we had printed that still hangs on my dining room wall.
Our driver's nickname in Tanzania was "roller" and we initially thought it had to do with the vehicle, but later realized is was about the bird.
Many more rollers were seen in November, 2022 during my South Africa Birding & Wildlife Safari. I tried not to cry each time I saw one.
