We saw 186 species of birds and added 47 to our life list on this trip to Texas. These included whooping cranes, the tallest bird in North America. The species declined to around 20 birds in the 1940s but, through captive breeding, wetland management, and a program that teaches young cranes how to migrate, numbers have risen to about 600 today. We benefited from expert guidance given by Michael Marsden and Anne Swaim. See the complete trip bird list.
Let's see what we remember ... Ah, yes, we visited the Alamo along with Mission San Jose and Mission San Juan. These missions are all part of the San Antonio Missions World Heritage listing.
