I've had goldenrod in the front garden since moving into the house in 2014. I only ID'd it last fall (2021).
It grows tall, but doesn't bloom until late summer, so it has been mistakenly pulled as a "weed" a few times before it gets to the blooming stage.
Update, June 8, 2023. I thought I had a milkweed coming up, I'm pretty sure I planted a milkweed plant here last fall. This, however, was id'd as a goldenrod. ( see photo)
