Upland Goose (Chloephaga picta)

Female (left),two males, and young - Falklands: New Island, December 17, 2014

First seen in Tierra del Fuego National Park, at the end of the world on the first of the year during our 1993 Trip to the End of the World. We also saw them in Torres del Paine, Chile on that same trip, but we were not birders at the time and didn't id them until years later when reviewing our trip photos.

We subsequently got much better looks at these birds when revisiting Ushuaia in 2014, and in the Falklands on our Southern Ocean Expedition. The chicks remind us of Star Wars creatures. In flight, they have a nice green stripe on the wing: (see photo).
