Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus)

Cape May Meadows Banding, November 5, 2021

I first saw one of these adorable little owls with John on an "owl prowl" in Greenwich Point Park on Jan 26, 2013. The little guy was sleeping in a tree clutching part of a dead mouse in its talons. We subsequently found another one in the same place over 5 years later.

I subsequently saw one in New Jersey on my first day of birding without John, November 5, 2021. Charlie Roberto was involved with the banding station at Cape May Meadows and brought a couple of the recent bandees out to show to our SMRA group. I got to release one of them.
