We first ebirded one of these in New Jersey on September 15, 2013, but we didn't get a really good look at a Northern Harrier until we visited Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge on Feb 1, 2014. We also got great looks at several Short-eared Owls (Asio flammeus) at dusk on this same day.
We've also seen these a number of times near home at Croton Point Park as well as in Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, and Newfoundland.
