We spotted a Barred Owl at Croton Point on Groundhog Day 2013. It is also called the Hoot Owl for its distinctive call, and goes by other names, including Eight Hooter, Rain Owl, Wood Owl, and Striped Owl.

We've seen them a few other times and also heard them from home in Westchester.
